The Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission, upon the request of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), Sri Lanka, held a two-day workshop on the APACC Criteria and accreditation policies and procedures from 21 to 22 July 2008 at TVEC, Colombo.

The workshop aimed to build the capability of participants for undertaking APACC accreditation and certification process in Sri Lanka. Thirty eight (38) Directors, Principals and senior officials from the public and private TVET institutions, TVEC, Department of Technical Education and Training participated in the workshop. Some of the participants were already certified APACC Accreditors.

Theme paper presentations on the APACC accreditation and certification procedures were conducted and discussed by APACC Coordinator and CPSC Faculty Consultant, Dr. Suresh Kumar Dhameja who acted as Course Coordinator and Resource Person. Mrs. W.J.D. N. Rodrigo, Local Resource Person discussed National Policy and Standards in TVET for Accreditation and Status of Accreditation in Sri Lanka.

The workshop was made possible through the coordination of Dr. T. A. Piyasiri, Director General, TVEC and National Coordinator for Accreditation for Sri Lanka and Mr. Bolanda Hewa Susantha Suraweera, Deputy Director General of TVEC.

The workshop was expected to generate interest towards APACC among TVET institutions which will lead to full realization and active implementation of regional accreditation and an increase of accredited institutions in the region.
