The Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC) in pursuing quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the Region through institutional assessment and accreditation, conducted the first on-site visits in Thailand to two (2) TVET Institutions – Siam Business Administration Technological College (SBAC), Saimai and Songkhla Vocational College (SVC) held on January 22 - 24 and January 25 - 27, 2018, respectively.

The APACC Team composed of Dr. Romulita Alto, APACC Team Leader led the on-site visits while Pn. Noor Aidi Binti Nadzri, Director of Curriculum Development Division, Department of Polytechnic Education and APACC National Coordinator for Accreditation (NCA) - Malaysia acted as the team member and Ms. Julifer Madeja as APACC support staff for both on-site visits.

Officials from the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) were also present during the opening ceremony to show support to the APACC accreditation activities headed by Dr. Pongsatorn Pimpanit, Chief of Vocational Quality Assurance, Bureau of Vocational Education Qualification and Standard and Mr. Rangsan Thepmondri, NCA in Thailand as well as the APACC Special Officer Dr. Paiboon Saiyawongs.

During his welcome remarks, Dr. Pimpanit stated that quality assurance is very important to establish linkages or partnership with national accrediting agencies of member countries. Apart from that, it boosts the reputation of institutions and paves the way for continuous improvement of these institutions for the benefit of stakeholders. On the other hand, Dr. Alto expressed her gratitude to SBAC for pursuing the APACC accreditation.

SBAC, located at Saimai, Bangkok, Thailand, is a private institution established in the year 1996 and is part of the growing Siam Computer and Language Institute’s (SCL) Family. SBAC offers two levels of education - Diploma and Advanced Diploma offered both in Thai and English. Programs offered by SBAC are the following: Business Computer, Computer Graphic, Information Technology, Foreign Language, Tourism, Accounting, Marketing and Logistics.

On the other hand, SVC was established in 1939, located at Mueang, Songkhla, Thailand. SVC offers Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma and Certificate Courses in various fields such as Food and Nutrition, Accounting, Business Computer, Business Administration, Computer Graphic Art and Hotel and Tourism. The school aims to provide vocational education qualitatively and to facilitate and develop deep and comprehensive knowledge as well as vocational skills as graduates approach the ASEAN community competitions. It envisions to be a leading ASEAN community-class institute in vocational education and services.

SVC, headed by Dr. Rujira Klaewtanong, presented their accomplishments in the field of food and nutrition and other vocational qualifications. The on-site visit activity was fully supported by the Faculty, Staff, and Students of SVC with the active cooperation of OVEC led by Dr. Pracharom Chantarachit, Deputy Secretary General.

The on-site visits facilitated the validation of the Self Study Reports submitted by the institutions to assess their compliance to APACC standards. Result of the visits will be determined after the accreditation procedure and will be announced accordingly.
